A former Kwara State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Bashir Bolarinwa, has declared his intention to contest the state’s governorship seat, citing experience and capacity to tackle governance challenges.

Mr Bolarinwa, in an interview on Sunday, said his decision was driven by a commitment to service and a desire to address the socio-economic issues facing Kwara State.

“I submitted my letter of intent to the party on Thursday. I am not driven by personal ambition, but by a lifelong record of service that spans the grassroots, the legislature and national institutions,” he said.

“I am equipped with the analytical tools and global outlook necessary to confront the socio-economic and governance challenges facing Kwara State.”

Experience and credentials

Mr Bolarinwa highlighted his academic background, including a PhD in International Relations and degrees from the University of Ilorin and the University of Lagos, as key assets.

He noted that his experience cuts across various levels of governance, beginning as a councillor, then serving as a two-term chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government and later as a two-term member of the House of Representatives.

Political track record

The aspirant also referenced his tenure as Kwara APC chairman in 2018, during which he led the party to victory in the 2019 general elections under the “O To Ge” movement.

He added that his leadership experience extends to national institutions, including his role as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Broadcasting Commission.

Governance agenda

Mr Bolarinwa described his governorship ambition as a call to service, expressing readiness to build on the achievements of the current administration.

“I am not a novice in governance. I understand the challenges facing our people and where urgent attention is needed,” he said.

He also expressed confidence that the APC would retain power in the state in 2027.

Call for unity

The aspirant urged party stakeholders to prioritise unity and development, emphasising the need for peace, equity, and inclusive governance.

He maintained that his vision is to move Kwara State to greater heights through effective leadership and strategic policymaking.
