The Chairman of the Jigawa State Football Association, Sabo Eka, has called on the state government to establish a dedicated Ministry of Sports to enhance sports development.
Eka made the appeal during an interview on Tuesday in Dutse.
He noted that separating sports from the current Ministry of Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture would allow for more focused attention and investment in the sector.
According to him, the appointment of professionals with relevant expertise—particularly in football—would significantly improve decision-making and development in the sport. He likened this to how doctors, engineers, and lawyers are appointed to lead their respective sectors.
“Many states have already created standalone ministries of sports to strengthen sports activities and infrastructure,” Eka said.
He emphasized that the establishment of such a ministry in Jigawa, along with the involvement of football experts, would greatly elevate the performance and management of sports in the state, particularly benefiting clubs like Jigawa Golden Stars FC.
