The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has engaged members of the International Airlines Association of Nigeria (IAAN) in a strategic meeting aimed at strengthening protocol services, improving airport operations, and enhancing passenger experience across the country’s airports.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by FAAN on Sunday following an interactive session held at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, where officials and airline operators discussed operational concerns affecting service delivery.

The meeting was led by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, as part of efforts to deepen collaboration between airport authorities and international airline operators.

FAAN moves to strengthen airline collaboration

Mr Agbebire said the session was organized to improve cooperation between FAAN’s Department of Protocol and Passages and airline operators, while also creating room for airlines to raise pressing concerns.

“Fostering a stronger working relationship between the Department of Protocol and Passages and airline operators, while also providing an opportunity to listen to some of the challenges of the airlines.”

The authority said the meeting also served as a platform for both parties to discuss issues of mutual interest affecting airport operations and passenger services.

Airlines raise key operational concerns

During the meeting, representatives of international airlines highlighted several challenges affecting service delivery and passenger convenience at Nigerian airports.

According to FAAN, the concerns raised included:

  • Inadequate signage caused by ongoing landside construction works
  • Insufficient lifts within airport facilities
  • Shuttle bus operational challenges
  • Airside ramp marking issues linked to ongoing airside construction activities
  • Need for stronger support to improve customer experience

“In response, the airline representatives raised a number of operational concerns, including inadequate signage related to the ongoing landside construction works, insufficient lifts, shuttle bus challenges, and issues with airside ramp markings affected by the ongoing airside construction activities. They also sought greater support to enhance customer experience.”

The concerns reflect ongoing infrastructure and operational issues affecting airport efficiency and traveler movement.

FAAN assures review, improved service delivery

Responding to the complaints, Mr Agbebire assured airline operators that FAAN would review all issues raised with the goal of improving service standards and operational efficiency nationwide.

He said the authority remains committed to addressing infrastructure gaps and enhancing airport experiences for both operators and passengers.

“With a view to improving service delivery and operational standards across the airports.”

He added that FAAN would carefully assess the feedback to strengthen airport coordination and overall passenger satisfaction.

The engagement underscores FAAN’s broader efforts to improve stakeholder collaboration as Nigeria continues infrastructure upgrades at key aviation hubs, particularly the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The meeting is expected to help improve communication between airport managers and international carriers while addressing operational bottlenecks affecting airport service delivery.
