The Ondo State Muslim Welfare Board has confirmed the departure of the first batch of 316 Muslim pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage.
Alhaji Dhikirulahi Chandy-Adam, Chairman of the Board, made the disclosure in a phone interview on Monday.
According to him, the pilgrims—who had been vaccinated against yellow fever and meningitis—were scheduled to depart via Ilorin International Airport at 1 p.m. on Monday.
“In Ondo State, a total of 735 intending pilgrims will journey to the holy land. Today, the first batch, comprising 316 pilgrims, will depart. The second and third batches are scheduled to leave on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively,” Chandy-Adam stated.
He added that preparations for the airlift began earlier in the day to ensure a smooth departure process.
The Board Chairman urged the pilgrims to uphold their faith, remain spiritually focused, and conduct themselves in accordance with Islamic principles throughout the pilgrimage.
He also advised them to strictly observe the rules and regulations of the Saudi Arabian authorities to ensure a successful and hitch-free Hajj.
