
The Kaduna State Government on Wednesday inaugurated the state Steering Committee for Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and Azithromycin Mass Administration (AZM).
The committee was inaugurated in Kaduna by the state Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma Kaltum-Ahmed.
Kaltum-Ahmed in her remarks at the event, said that the inauguration marked another significant step in the Kaduna State Government’s commitment to ensuring a healthier future for its citizens
She highlighted the unwavering commitment of the state government in supporting initiatives aimed at achieving a malaria-free Kaduna.
She also lauded the tireless efforts of Development partners who continuously bring resources and technical support to bolster the state’s healthcare delivery.

The committee, which is to be chaired by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Aishatu Abubakar-Sadiq, is tasked with ensuring the effective coordination and implementation of both AZM and SMC programmes.
The committee is also tasked with the responsibilities of mobilising necessary resources and overseeing the overall success of the initiatives.
Other members of the committee include the Director of Public Health, Dr Sadiq Idris, Director of Disease Control, State Primary Health Care Board, Alhaji Hamza Ikara and the Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Isa Abubakar -Balarabe.
Also included are the Programme Managers for Neglected Tropical Diseases and the State Malaria Elimination Program, as well as representatives from the Malaria Consortium and other key stakeholders
