The widow of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad), Omowunmi Aloba, has alleged that her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba, wants the outcome of the ongoing DNA test involving her son, Liam, to return a negative result.
Mrs Aloba made the claim during a now-viral interview on Channels Television, where she also spoke extensively about the strained relationship between both families.
According to Mrs Aloba, the dispute between her and her husband’s family predates Mohbad’s death and has since escalated into a deeper family crisis.
“What he actually wants can never happen. He actually wants the DNA of my child to be negative,” she said.
She further alleged that Mr Joseph Aloba has repeatedly insisted on a DNA test to determine Liam’s paternity, but claimed his intentions are not in good faith.
Breakdown of family relationship
Mrs Aloba said she and her father-in-law were once very close but fell out after the birth of her son, Liam.
“Yeah, we used to be best of friends… I think it was after I had my child,” she said.
She added that disagreements over Liam’s naming ceremony and internal family issues worsened tensions within the household.
“It was just a family feud that became something very big,” she stated.
Claims of post-death disputes
Mrs Aloba also alleged that shortly after the death of her husband, discussions from her father-in-law shifted towards property and royalties.
“I literally placed a call to him because I was tensed and scared… he was just talking about my husband’s property,” she said.
She insisted that public perception of the dispute being solely about Mohbad’s death is misleading.
“A lot of people online feel like it’s all about the demise of my husband… but it is because of the family feud before his death,” she added.
Mohbad’s death and ongoing dispute
The controversy surrounding the family is linked to the death of Mohbad on 12 September 2023 at the age of 27, which sparked nationwide outrage, protests, and multiple investigations.
His body was later exhumed for autopsy following public pressure, while legal disputes over DNA testing, inheritance, and royalties have continued into 2026.
Mr Joseph Aloba has consistently demanded a DNA test before his son’s final burial, while Mrs Aloba maintains that she has never opposed the test and insists Liam is Mohbad’s biological son.
Mrs Aloba said the situation has reached a point where reconciliation may no longer be possible.
“It has really got to a point that I don’t think this whole family feud can be settled anymore,” she said.
