Three fatalities, five confirmed and 20 suspected cases have so far been recorded in the cholera outbreak in Plateau State, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, has disclosed.
Baamlong, who spoke in Jos, said the confirmed cases were reported in Ngyong, Hurti and Wurit communities in Bokkos Local Government Area. However, he noted that the state Ministry of Health has activated an incident management system for a comprehensive and multi-sectoral control of the outbreak.
To this end, he further revealed that the state has appointed an epidemiologist as incident manager for the outbreak to oversee the establishment of oral rehydration and treatment centres in the affected communities.
