The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to due process and accountability following the controversy involving social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Lagos, AIG Moshood Jimoh.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed that the criminal matter linked to the allegations had already been investigated and was before a court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
According to the statement, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja invited AIG Moshood Jimoh for questioning over the allegations made against him. The police also confirmed that VeryDarkMan received a formal invitation from the FCID on July 30, 2026, requesting that he appear before investigators to provide evidence supporting the claims he made publicly.
The Nigeria Police Force said the invitations demonstrate its commitment to investigating all credible allegations of misconduct, regardless of the rank of the officer involved or the status of the complainant.
While acknowledging citizens’ constitutional right to freedom of expression, the police cautioned against making unsubstantiated allegations, noting that freedom of speech does not extend to defamation or attempts to influence disciplinary processes through public pressure.
The Force added that any officer found culpable after investigations would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the law, while individuals found to have made false allegations could also face legal consequences.
The police urged VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation extended by the Force CID and allow both the administrative review and ongoing judicial proceedings to take their course.
The statement concluded by reiterating that no officer is above the law and pledged to continue upholding professionalism, transparency, and accountability in the discharge of its constitutional duties.
