The Nigeria Democratic Congress has announced a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening internal party structures, promoting accountability and reinforcing party supremacy as part of efforts to institutionalize the party.

The resolutions were contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, following the second meeting of the National Executive Committee.

According to the party, the decisions were taken to ensure discipline, transparency and long-term sustainability within the organisation.

“The NDC is committed to building the party as a strong and enduring institution, with emphasis on party supremacy,” the statement read.

NDC insists on Party supremacy

The party stated that governments elected on its platform must remain accountable to party structures and leadership.

It added that policies, programmes and appointments made by elected officials should be done in consultation with the party, excluding personal staff appointments.

“The programs, policies, and appointments (except personal staff) of all governments elected on the platform of the party must be made in consultation with the party structure,” the statement added.

The NEC also stressed that members are expected to place the party’s collective interests above personal ambitions.

“The party remains supreme, and members are expected to align their personal interests and agendas with those of the party,” it stated.

Code of Conduct committee approved

As part of efforts to improve discipline and accountability, the NEC approved the establishment of a comprehensive Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates.

The party said a committee headed by the National Legal Adviser has been constituted to develop the framework and operational guidelines.

The NDC also announced the inauguration of a National Reconciliation Committee tasked with reconciling aggrieved members and strengthening unity within the party.

“A National Reconciliation Committee has been inaugurated to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party,” the statement noted.

Affiliated groups placed under party control

The party directed that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organisations linked to the NDC must operate strictly under the supervision and authority of the party.

“All affiliated groups and NGOs shall operate under the guidance and control of the party and must not function in parallel with, or independently of, the party structure,” the statement said.

The NEC maintained that the NDC is being developed as a permanent political institution and not a temporary platform for individual political ambitions.

“The NDC is being built as an institution, not a personality cult, political movement, or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be used and discarded,” the party added.

NDC promises financial accountability

On financial management, the party pledged to enforce strict accountability measures among its officers and candidates.

“On financial probity, the party will enforce strict accountability in the management of party resources by all officers, and party funds must be used strictly for party business,” the statement said.

The party further directed that all campaign funds and contributions raised by candidates must be fully disclosed through designated party channels.

“Monies sourced by candidates at all levels, and contributions made by candidates to campaign accounts, must be fully disclosed to the party at the appropriate levels,” it added.

The NDC urged members and aspirants to remain loyal to the party and prioritise national interest in all political engagements.
