Barcelona legend Andrés Iniesta has urged the Catalan giants to make a move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, describing him as the ideal successor to Robert Lewandowski.
Osimhen has established himself as one of the world’s most prolific forwards over the past four years, attracting interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs with his consistent goalscoring exploits.
Barcelona have long been linked with the Super Eagles striker as they continue their search for a reliable No. 9 following Lewandowski’s departure. According to Spanish outlet Diario SPORT, the La Liga champions closely monitored Osimhen’s situation at Galatasaray in recent weeks.
However, the report claims Barcelona have now cooled their interest due to the financial demands involved. Osimhen is reportedly seeking a salary of around €15 million net per season, in addition to bonuses and image rights, while Galatasaray are expected to demand a substantial transfer fee.
Although Barcelona have strengthened their attack this summer with the arrivals of Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon, signing a proven centre-forward remains one of the club’s top priorities.
The club’s preferred target is Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez, but negotiations have proven difficult, leaving Barcelona to consider alternative options.
Iniesta Backs Osimhen
Speaking to NTV Spor, Iniesta expressed his admiration for the Nigerian international and encouraged Barcelona to prioritise his signing.
“I don’t think Atlético Madrid will let Julián Álvarez leave. I would suggest they sign Victor Osimhen. He is a fantastic goalscorer and one of the best replacements for Robert Lewandowski.”
Iniesta believes Osimhen possesses the quality and experience to lead Barcelona’s attack for years to come.
Despite the club legend’s endorsement
, Barcelona are reportedly unwilling to disrupt their carefully managed wage structure to secure the 27-year-old striker.
Since joining Galatasaray, Osimhen has been in outstanding form, scoring 59 goals in 74 appearances, further strengthening his reputation as one of Europe’s elite finishers.
