Troops of the 1st Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an armed robbery attempt along the Abuja–Kaduna Highway after responding to a distress call during a routine patrol.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, said the troops swiftly mobilised after receiving information about an ongoing armed robbery at Nasarawan Doka, engaging the criminals and successfully neutralising the threat.
The Army said one suspect, identified as Kabiru Zayyanu, was arrested during the encounter after sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. He was evacuated to Doka General Hospital for first aid, while other members of the gang fled the scene. Troops conducted a hot pursuit, but no further contact was made, and no casualties or abductions were recorded.
Umar added that the arrested suspect would be handed over to the appropriate security agency upon the conclusion of investigations, stressing that troops continue to maintain a strong presence and dominate the area to ensure a secure environment along the strategic highway.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Nigerian Army urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, assuring the public of sustained efforts to safeguard lives and property across the region.
