Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will only support the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in 2027 if the party zones the ticket to the South.
Speaking during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, Wike stressed the need for fairness and equity, noting that the South deserves its turn at the presidency following eight years of leadership from the North.
He argued that just as the North has had its share of power under President Buhari, the principles of justice and national balance demand that the next presidential candidate come from the southern region.
Wike’s statement comes amid growing debate within the PDP over power rotation and internal party unity. While some factions align with his stance, others have started expressing support for President Tinubu’spotential re-election, indicating fractures within the opposition party.
