Abuja — Political analyst and legal practitioner, Barrister Elvis Elimihele, has predicted that the 2027 general electionswill mark a turning point in Nigeria’s political history, stressing that it will no longer be a contest between political parties but a battle between the Nigerian people and the political elite.
Speaking during a discussion on VOP TV, Elimihele said the current economic hardship, rising cost of living, and growing discontent among citizens have created a wave of frustration that could significantly reshape voter behavior in 2027.
“Because of what Nigerians are going through now, the 2027 election will not just be between political parties — it will be between Nigerians and the political class,” he said.
He explained that the widening gap between citizens and their leaders has eroded public trust, making many Nigerians see elections as an opportunity to protest against bad governance rather than simply choose among party candidates.
“People are tired of slogans and empty promises. They want accountability, empathy, and results,” Elimihele added.
According to him, unless the ruling class reconnects with the people through meaningful reforms, transparency, and relief measures, the 2027 polls could witness a massive anti-establishment movement driven by public anger and economic frustration.
“The poor are becoming politically conscious. The next election will test whether the political class truly understands the pain on the streets,” he warned.
Observers say Elimihele’s remarks reflect a broader sentiment across Nigeria, where citizens increasingly demand performance over party loyalty in evaluating future leaders.
