Nigeria Wins Gold at 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup in China

Nigeria has recorded a major academic milestone after its national team won the Gold Award in the Middle School Group category at the 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup held in Shanghai, China.
The achievement marks Nigeria’s first-ever participation in the prestigious international competition, where the country’s representatives outperformed teams from several nations to claim the top prize.

The victorious team comprised Oluwadamilola Adeolu of St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado-Ekiti; Abdurrahman Yusuf and Maryam Yusuf of Ar-Raheem International College, Ilorin; and Chinedu Okediachi of Madonna International Schools, Asaba.

The students qualified to represent Nigeria after excelling in both the Nigeria Spelling Bee and the African Spelling Bee Championship, earning the opportunity to compete on the global stage.

Their success has been widely celebrated as another example of the talent, resilience, and academic excellence of Nigerian students, further strengthening the country’s reputation in international educational competitions.
