Three key appointees of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, have resigned from their positions amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The officials are the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ayobami Ojo; Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning, Adegbola Oyeleke; and a member of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, Sunday Falana.

Their resignations were formally communicated on Monday, 2 November 2026, with the three officials indicating that their decisions would take immediate effect.

Commissioner resigns

Mr Ojo, who is from Ago-Are in Atisbo Local Government Area, conveyed his resignation in a letter addressed to Governor Makinde through the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde.

Referencing his appointment letter dated 22 June 2026, the commissioner said he was resigning his position with immediate effect.

He did not state a reason for his departure but thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to serve in the administration.

Aide cites working environment

Mr Oyeleke, a former two-term member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and former council chairman, also resigned as Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning.

In his resignation letter dated 2 November and addressed to the governor, Mr Oyeleke said he was no longer comfortable with the working environment in the administration.

He said the circumstances had made it difficult for him to effectively pursue and fulfil the aspirations of his people while serving in government.

Mr Oyeleke, however, thanked Governor Makinde for his leadership, encouragement and support, as well as the opportunity to contribute to the administration’s policies and development programmes.

OYSIEC member also quits

The third official, Mr Falana, who is from Ogbomoso, resigned as a member of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission.

In a letter dated November 2 and addressed to the governor through the Chief of Staff, he said his resignation would take immediate effect.

Mr Falana did not disclose his reason for leaving the electoral body but described his experience in the position as worthwhile and thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve.

More officials have left Makinde’s government

The latest resignations add to a series of departures from the Makinde administration in recent months.

Among those who have left are the governor’s former Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi; former Director-General of the Oyo State Due Process Office, Tara Adefope; former Special Adviser on Security, Fatai Owoseni; former member of the Oyo State Advisory Council, Babatunde Oduyoye; and former Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters, Funmi Arulogun.

Four other appointees; Joshua Olusola Afolabi, Rebecca Oladoja Agbejimi, Noah Adeyanju and Suleiman Adegbola, also resigned on 19 October.

The departures come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with Governor Makinde contesting the presidency on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission is preparing for the 29 December 2026 local government elections across the state’s 33 local government areas. The commission released its final list of candidates on 27 October.
