The Bauchi State Government has directed political appointees aspiring to contest in upcoming party primaries to resign on or before 24 April 2026, in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.
Mr Gidado said the decision aligns with statutory provisions guiding the participation of public office holders in electoral processes.
“This directive is in line with statutory requirements governing the participation of public office holders in electoral processes and is aimed at ensuring full compliance with the law,” he said.
He noted that all affected political appointees who intend to contest for elective positions in the forthcoming party primary elections must resign on or before Friday if they have not already done so.
Compliance requirement
Mr Gidado further directed affected officials to properly hand over government property and responsibilities.
“All such appointees are further directed to hand over all government property in their possession, as well as the responsibilities of their offices, to the appropriate officer within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs),” he stated.
Government appreciation
The Bauchi State Government also expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for their service.
Mr Gidado said the government acknowledges their contributions to the development of the state and wished them success in their future political pursuits.
