US President Donald Trump has ordered American flags to be flown at half-staff across the United States and at US government facilities abroad in honour of country music legend Dolly Parton.
Trump issued the proclamation on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following Parton’s death at the age of 80.
In the proclamation, Trump said the decision was made “as a mark of respect for the memory of Dolly Parton.”
Under the order, the US flag is to be flown at half-staff at the White House, federal buildings and grounds, military posts, naval stations and US naval vessels throughout the United States and its territories.
The directive also extends to US embassies, legations, consular offices and other American government facilities overseas, including US military facilities and naval vessels and stations abroad.
The flags are to remain at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Trump also paid tribute to Parton, describing her in a message as one of the greatest country singers and saying her death was a loss for millions of people.
The presidential order places the American flag at half-staff for one week as the country remembers a figure whose influence extended beyond music into philanthropy, entertainment and American popular culture.
