Mustapha Sule Lamido has formally declared his ambition for the 2027 Jigawa State governorship after picking the nomination form of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Mr Lamido, the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate, presented the form to the party’s State Working Committee and stakeholders on Tuesday in Dutse, seeking endorsement ahead of the election.
Speaking after submitting the form, Mr Lamido said he had concluded wide consultations and was ready to contest under the PDP platform.
“We are PDP card-carrying members, and we believe in our party’s philosophy, strength, and resilience to tackle its internal challenges,” he said.
He added that he was seeking the party’s approval to fly its flag in the 2027 governorship race.
Mr Lamido’s renewed bid signals continuity in his political ambition after contesting in 2023, as the PDP seeks to reposition itself in Jigawa ahead of the next election cycle.
Backs PDP as best option
Mr Lamido expressed confidence in the PDP’s capacity to address the state’s challenges if returned to power.
“We have confidence in our party, and we believe the people of Jigawa and Nigerians believe in it as well,” he said.
He argued that the PDP remains unmatched in delivering people-oriented projects and programmes.
Criticism of rival parties
The aspirant criticised parties that succeeded the PDP in government, accusing them of poor performance.
“All other political parties that got power after the PDP have failed woefully,” he said.
Mr Lamido further alleged that current leadership at the national level has worsened Nigeria’s socio-economic and security situation.
Appeal for party unity
Mr Lamido called on PDP members in Jigawa to unite behind his candidacy, pledging to uphold the party’s values.
He assured stakeholders of his commitment to patriotism and service, stating that his ambition is driven by a desire to restore effective governance.
Mr Lamido, son of former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido, said rebuilding public confidence in leadership remains central to his campaign.
