Nigerian Christians Join Global Observance of Good Friday
Nigerian Christians today join their counterparts across the world in observing Good Friday—a solemn and significant day in the Christian calendar commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ on Calvary. The day serves as a powerful reminder of Christ’s sacrifice for the salvation of humanity.

Globally, Christians mark this day with deep reflection and contemplation, recognizing the suffering and death of Jesus as central to their faith.
In recognition of the significance of this period, the Federal Government has declared today and Monday, April 21, as public holidays to mark Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Easter Triduum—the three-day observance leading up to Easter—began yesterday with Maundy Thursday. This day commemorates the Last Supper and the institution of the Ministerial Priesthood.
The Triduum continues today with the Passion Service, which reflects on Christ’s suffering and crucifixion, and will culminate on Sunday with the celebration of Easter, marking His resurrection from the dead.
