A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Henrich Akomolafe, says the anticipated re-election of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, in 2026 will serve as a measure of President Bola Tinubu’s political influence.

Speaking with journalists during a political consultation meeting on Tuesday, Akomolafe said the 20 June 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State goes beyond a state contest, describing it as a broader test of confidence in the leadership of the APC at the national level.

He argued that the outcome would reflect public perception of the administration of President Bola Tinubu, particularly in relation to ongoing governance and economic reforms.

According to him, Governor Oyebanji has distinguished himself as a performer, noting that his leadership has brought stability and development to the state.

“Ekiti people are politically conscious and always assess performance before making electoral decisions. Governor Oyebanji has built trust through his record, and that trust will translate into votes,” he said.

Governance assessment

Akomolafe described Oyebanji as a “bridge-builder” whose administration prioritises workers, youths, farmers, and traditional institutions, adding that his inclusive governance style has strengthened unity in Ekiti State.

He said the governor’s leadership, anchored on service and visible results, has improved public confidence in governance and positioned him strongly ahead of the poll.

The APC chieftain also connected Oyebanji’s expected victory to growing public acceptance of President Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as difficult but necessary.

“Transformational leadership requires courage. The support Oyebanji will receive will also reflect public understanding of the President’s vision,” he said.

He acknowledged that the reforms have brought short-term economic hardship but insisted that many Nigerians are beginning to see long-term benefits.

Party unity call

Akomolafe urged APC members in Ekiti State to strengthen unity ahead of the election, calling for intensified grassroots mobilisation across all constituencies.

He also appealed to youths, women, and community leaders to support candidates committed to service delivery, stressing that the election would be crucial to consolidating development gains in the state.
