The Osun State Police Command has warned individuals and groups against attempting to forcefully take over the affairs or premises of local government areas in the state.
The warning followed reports of plans by some individuals or groups to take control of local government areas despite an ongoing court case concerning the matter.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police (Election), Samuel Erale, the command described any attempt to forcefully assume control of local government areas as self-help and a breach of peace.
The police urged all parties involved to remain patient and allow the courts to determine the matter in accordance with the law.
The command also warned that anyone who attempts to forcibly occupy or disrupt local government facilities would be arrested and prosecuted.
It called on parents, community and traditional leaders, as well as political and youth leaders, to caution their supporters against actions capable of threatening peace and security across the state.
The Commissioner of Police also congratulated residents on the peaceful conclusion of the recent Osun governorship election and urged them to remain calm, respect the rule of law and allow the judicial process to run its course.
The command assured residents that it would continue to protect lives and property while maintaining peace and public order throughout the state.
