Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, has condemned critics questioning the swift rescue of the family of former Power Minister, Adebayo Adelabu, describing their mindset as similar to that of terrorists.
Mr Olusegun made the remarks in a series of posts shared on X on Sunday while defending the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force following the rescue of Mr Adelabu’s sister, Mrs Olaide Adegoke, and her twin sons.
The family members were abducted on 3 June in Ibadan, Oyo State, and regained freedom on 6 June after security operations.
“Your mindset is like that of Terrorists” — Olusegun
Reacting to criticisms surrounding the rescue operation, Mr Olusegun accused some Nigerians of politicising the incident and undermining security agencies.
“If you find yourself unhappy about the rescue of a woman and her children and jump on every conspiracy to try and downplay the efforts of law enforcement, just know you’re already a terrorist.
“You may not be carrying weapons yet, but your mindset and theirs are essentially the same,” he stated.
The presidential aide further criticised individuals he claimed were exploiting the incident for political purposes.
Accuses critics of politicising kidnapping
In another post, Mr Olusegun described some online reactions as insensitive, alleging that certain individuals appeared pleased over the abduction because of political disagreements.
“Like I said, these soulless individuals do not care about the kidnapped kids in Ogbomoso, and this particular cretin couldn’t contain his joy over Adelabu’s sister and kids being kidnapped.
“For them, this is political cannon fodder that they can use to bulldoze their perpetual loser of a candidate into office,” he wrote while quoting another user.
He also rejected claims that members of the current administration behaved similarly while in opposition.
“Never in our time in opposition did we celebrate gleefully and shamelessly the misfortunes of those who don’t agree with us.
“You lots are soulless, and your justification today for losing your humanity is that ‘some people may have done it 12 years ago’,” he added.
Mixed reactions trail rescue operation
The rescue operation has generated mixed reactions across social media platforms, with many Nigerians praising security agencies for securing the release of the victims within days.
Others, however, questioned what they described as disparities in response times between high-profile kidnapping cases and incidents involving ordinary citizens.
Some users referenced the continued captivity of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in parts of Oyo State, including the Ogbomoso axis, arguing that all victims deserve equal urgency and attention from security agencies.
The debate has further reignited conversations around insecurity, public trust and perceived inequality in emergency response efforts across Nigeria.
