Top leaders of the Islamic State West Africa Province and 76 foot soldiers, alongside members of their families, have surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Nigeria’s North-East region.

The development was disclosed by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammad Goni, in a statement released on Sunday night.

According to the military, the insurgents abandoned their enclaves and laid down their weapons following sustained military offensives and mounting operational pressure across the theatre.

Capt. Goni stated, “The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has continued to record significant operational successes in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists through sustained operations backed by credible, timely and actionable intelligence.”

Military records fresh breakthrough

Providing details of the latest development, Capt. Goni said a fresh group of senior ISWAP commanders surrendered to troops operating in the North-East.

He noted that the individuals were among strategic members of the terrorist network who opted to surrender due to increasing military pressure.

“They are currently in a secure location undergoing profiling, debriefing and other established procedures in accordance with extant operational protocols,” he stated.

He further disclosed that within the last week alone, 76 terrorist foot soldiers, alongside some of their family members, surrendered to troops.

Counter-terrorism operations intensify

Capt. Goni explained that the latest surrender reflects the impact of Operation Hadin Kai’s sustained offensive strategy aimed at dismantling terrorist structures and weakening insurgent capabilities.

According to him, military operations have continued to target terrorist strongholds, disrupt logistics and command structures, and limit operational movement across the region.

“Persistent military operations have continued to degrade the terrorists’ combat capabilities while eroding confidence within their ranks and leadership,” he said.

The military spokesman added that recent gains demonstrate the effectiveness of Nigeria’s broader counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency approach built on intelligence-led operations, coordinated combat missions and collaboration with operational partners.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Hadin Kai to sustaining pressure on remaining insurgent elements.

“The pressure on the remaining terrorist elements will continue unabated until they are completely neutralised or forced to surrender,” the statement added.
