Ibadan — The Oyo State Police Command has arrested an Islamic cleric, identified as Alfa Bashiru, for allegedly being in possession of suspected human flesh.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, disclosed this in a statement posted on the command’s verified X handle on Wednesday.
According to Osifeso, operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol intercepted a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG at the Toll Gate axis of the Ibadan Expressway around 11:30 a.m. The suspect, who was on board the vehicle, was found with the suspicious item.
“The suspect claimed to have purchased the item in Lagos. He has since been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, for further investigation,” Osifeso said.

He added that forensic analysis was ongoing to determine the authenticity and source of the suspected flesh.
In a separate incident, the command recovered an abandoned Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JXduring a stop-and-search operation. Police operatives said the driver fled after being flagged down, leaving the vehicle behind.
The command urged anyone with legitimate claims to the car to come forward with verifiable documents.
Osifeso stressed that stop-and-search operations were deliberate security measures, not mere theatrics, aimed at safeguarding residents and travelers across the state.
He assured the public of the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna’s, commitment to combating crime and sustaining peace in Oyo State.
