The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the suspected murder of Jemimah Dutse, a former All Progressives Congress Women Leader in Bauchi South, after she was found dead inside her residence with her throat allegedly slit by unidentified assailants.
The incident occurred at Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, Bauchi, with the police receiving a report about the discovery of her body on Saturday, 3 October.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Nafiu Habib, the report was made at the ‘E’ Division by a 49-year-old man at about 2:07pm.
Mr Habib said the deceased was found in a pool of blood inside her residence, with her throat slit.
“On 3rd October, 2026, at about 1407hrs, a 49-year-old man of Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, reported at ‘E’ Division that the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered in a pool of blood inside her residence at Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, with her throat slit by yet-to-be-identified assailant(s),” he stated.
Police begin homicide investigation
Following the discovery, detectives attached to the ‘E’ Division visited the scene, documented evidence and evacuated Dutse’s remains to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for medical examination and autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Sani-Omolori Aliyu, subsequently ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet and thorough investigation.
The police said the investigation is aimed at determining the circumstances surrounding Dutse’s death and identifying those responsible.
Police promise justice
The command condoled with Dutse’s family, friends and political associates and assured the public that efforts would be made to apprehend the perpetrators.
“The command commiserates with the family, friends, and political associates of the deceased and assures the public that no stone will be left unturned to ensure justice is served,” Mr Habib said.
The police added that further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
The killing has raised fresh concerns about personal security, particularly following the discovery of a political figure dead inside her own residence.
At this stage, the police have not identified the assailants or established a motive for the killing. The investigation and autopsy are expected to provide further information about what happened and help investigators determine who was responsible.
