Liverpool suffered a disappointing 4-2 defeat to Leeds United in a dramatic pre-season friendly at Soldier Field in Chicago, throwing away a comfortable two-goal halftime advantage.
The Reds looked in complete control during the opening 45 minutes. Their attacking play was sharp and energetic, with new signing Florian Wirtz continuing to impress. Liverpool opened the scoring through Luke Chambers before Wirtz doubled the lead, capping off an impressive first-half display that suggested they were on course for another convincing pre-season victory.

However, the match took a dramatic turn after the break. Leeds United emerged with renewed intensity and took full advantage of Liverpool’s defensive lapses. Brenden Aaronson sparked the comeback with the visitors’ first goal before Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck twice. Sean Longstaff also found the net as Leeds scored four unanswered goals to complete a remarkable comeback and secure a 4-2 victory.
The defeat exposed several defensive weaknesses for Liverpool, particularly after multiple second-half substitutions disrupted the team’s rhythm. While the first-half performance offered plenty of encouragement, the collapse highlighted areas that still require improvement before the new season begins.

Despite the disappointing result, pre-season matches are designed to build fitness, test tactical ideas, and evaluate players under different match situations. Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola is expected to use the defeat as a valuable learning experience as he continues preparing his squad for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
Although the result will disappoint supporters, Liverpool can take positives from their attacking display in the first half, especially the growing chemistry between their new signings and established stars. The focus now shifts to correcting defensive issues and building consistency ahead of the competitive season.
