Abuja Records Earth Tremor as FG Urges Residents to Remain Calm

The Federal Government has confirmed that an earth tremor occurred in Abuja on Tuesday, August 4, assuring residents that there is no immediate cause for panic.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, disclosed that the seismic activity was detected by the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) at approximately 11:00 a.m.
According to the minister, the NGSA has been directed to provide hourly updates on the situation to enable the government closely monitor any developments and respond swiftly if necessary.

Alake stated that relevant authorities are implementing proactive safety measures to ensure the safety of residents while experts continue to assess the event.

He urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to remain calm and continue with their normal daily activities, stressing that there is currently no indication of any major threat.

The minister also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, adding that the public would be kept informed as more information becomes available from the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency.
Earth tremors are minor seismic events caused by movements beneath the Earth’s surface. While they are generally less destructive than earthquakes, they can occasionally be felt by people living near the affected area.
