Public affairs analyst Elvis Elimihele has called on the Federal Government to shift its focus toward production and critical infrastructure to naturally lower the country’s high cost of living.
Speaking on Voice of the People TV, Mr Elimihele acknowledged that while the fight for a living wage for Nigerian workers is necessary, a long-term economic fix requires a major overhaul of the nation’s transit networks.
He argued that functional Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and a robust rail network are vital to curbing seasonal transportation price spikes, pointing to India’s widespread rail system as a model for moving a massive population affordably.
Mr Elimihele also strongly criticized infrastructure decisions made under former President Muhammadu Buhari, questioning the economic benefit of building a rail line extending into the Niger Republic instead of prioritizing major domestic corridors, such as Lagos to Port Harcourt or Port Harcourt to Kano.
