President Bola Tinubu has celebrated his wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, on her 66th birthday, describing her as his “truest friend and confidante.”
In a birthday tribute shared on his verified X account on Monday, the President praised Mrs Tinubu for her patience, courage, compassion and support throughout their years together.
Mr Tinubu described Mrs Tinubu as the woman who had stood beside him through different stages of his life, sharing his burdens and offering counsel during difficult periods.
He said her presence had provided strength during uncertain moments and praised her for remaining calm and supportive when challenges arose.
The President also referenced the Yoruba saying, “Ìyàwó rere ni adé ọkọ rẹ̀,” which translates to, a good wife is her husband’s crown.
‘She speaks the truth plainly’
Mr Tinubu said one of the qualities he values most about his wife is her willingness to give him honest counsel, including when what she has to say may be difficult for him to hear.
He wrote that he calls Mrs Tinubu his “truest friend and confidante” because she speaks the truth plainly and offers him the counsel he needs.
The President also praised her role in raising their children and grandchildren, saying the family’s values of faith and kindness reflected her influence.
First Lady’s humanitarian activities
Mr Tinubu also highlighted his wife’s humanitarian work through the New Era Foundation and the Renewed Hope Initiative.
According to the President, her interventions have supported young people, widows, elderly citizens and women farmers across the country.
He also acknowledged her advocacy for people affected by tuberculosis and other diseases, describing her as a compassionate advocate.
Mr Tinubu said her concern for people transcended ethnic, regional and religious boundaries.
‘I would choose the same road’
Reflecting on their years together, the President said their relationship had been strengthened by shared experiences, difficult decisions and sacrifices.
He said laughter and prayer had carried them through many of those moments.
Mr Tinubu concluded his tribute by saying that if he had the opportunity to relive his life, “I would choose the same road that led me to you.”
He wished Mrs Tinubu many more years of good health and happiness as she marked her 66th birthday.
